MoreThis is a small local art gallery in downtown Plano with Haggard Park and the train station connecting everything to downtown. The artwork changes frequently and the staff is always friendly. There is no fee to come in. However, they won't turn down donations either.
MoreI went to see the Harlem Renaissance exhibition during family day and they partnered with the Junior League of Collin County. I show up and it was a building full of white women that crowded and bombarded every Black patron. I felt like I had walked into the GAP in 1990. They were trying to educate people about Black art and none of these women were arts professionals. Anytime I tried to look at a painting or read a label a white woman would rush up to me and it was jarring. I found myself naturally gravitating to the other Black people to talk about our history, family, and feelings. Why didn't Plano partner with Black professors, artists, or community leaders to create an authentic cultural event? You would not walk into a Holocaust exhibition and find a bunch of Catholic nuns crowding you to educate patrons about Judaism. You would not walk into a family reunion and find strangers telling you about your own history. I have been to other Black events before and some white people placed themselves front and center. I AM NOT SAYING WHITE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE THERE. I AM SAYING IT WAS A MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO HOST AN AUTHENTIC EVENT AND SOME WOMEN WERE BEING TOO EXTRA WHICH WAS ANNOYING.
MoreThe ArtCentre has very well known artists/collections as well as some hidden gems. The gallery changes often enough to summon visits each month. It is also a good meeting place for groups or for receptions.
MoreThe current exhibit is excellent. June 2018. This historic building in downtown Plano is wonderful. It should be a must see.
