tripadvisorJust started attending this winter and love this church. Very community oriented and feels like family. Come visit on Sunday and you will be blessed as you worship with a local body of believers while hearing the faithful exposition of God's Word.
MoreThe First Baptist Dallas was in the news shortly before I went to a convention held at the conference center across the street from the Sheraton Dallas Hotel. When I checked a map, I found that this famous mega-church was less than 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel. I contacted the church, and they graciously welcomed me and told me that I could bring as many friends of mine from the conference as were interested. Our group of fourteen included only a few Christians, but that was not a problem at all. Actually, the church staff, most especially David, our tour guide, didn’t ask us anything about ourselves. Also, we were comfortable throughout the tour, because no attempt was made to persuade us to become Christian or visit a church service. This is a historic mega-church, seating 3,000 for worship. Sermons by the Rev. Jeffress are broadcast worldwide. We were shown the TV studio and the broadcast equipment. The church also has a very successful outreach program to families. When we visited, the building for children was being expanded because of the great demand. Our visit was planned to last around one hour, but we stayed at least another half hour because it was so interesting. We saw the area where the services are now held, with a vast area for seating worshippers, a pipe organ, an area for a full orchestra, stained glass windows, and a beautiful baptismal font. We also visited the previous worship area, much smaller. Most unexpected was the special building for children’s activities, with child-friendly decorations, easy-to-use computers, and colorful play areas. There was a cute slide for kids to play on; a forty-ish woman from our group couldn’t resist going down the slide. “Shriek!” She loved it. There was no charge for the tour. We were given religious pamphlets at the end of the tour. The church has a small coffee shop that anyone can use. We would have had lunch there, but there was a very long line of people waiting to be served, so we had to give up.
