Small museum not really small kid friendly. Is more geared towards the older crowd. Really just a restoration garage than a museum. But the info and sights were interesting. Considering it was free and there was many over 100 year old trucks to see it was worth the quick visit.

I was given a excellent tour of the museum by Cliff who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the exhibits which cover the history of firefighting in Dallas and beyond. There are a vast number of firetrucks, many in working order, others being restored. Cliff himself specializes in golf leaf work which is beautifully done. A fascinating tour, highly recommended.

The Texas Fire Museum occupies an older Dallas Fire Department maintenance shop. Members of the North Texas SPAAMFAA chapter (antique fire apparatus association) restore old fire engines, and can also store their rigs there. This is important, as most fire engines are considerably larger than most residential garages. Units come and go, so a return trip will feature some familiar units and some new ones. Fire rigs can be found from like-new to in need of much help. Apparatus ages range from hand-drawn rigs from the early 19th century to motor units that could still be used by today's fire departments in a pinch. The quality of the restoration work is very good, and the restorers are very careful about period details. Visitors are welcome year round, but the garage is not air conditioned and can be a challenge in hot weather. The Texas Fire Museum offers its visitors the chance to see lots and lots of fire trucks in one visit. If you like fire trucks, this is a giant candy store.

the crew at TFM are saving old fire equipment one rusty bolt at a time but they're never too buzy to give a very informative tour of the old Dallas maintenance shop where all the equipment is housed. You can learn a lot about Fire fighting equipment even if youre an old hand at it and they love to share stories and educate young and old.
