tripadvisorCompletely Cleared my mind and spirit here. It was like a fairy tale dream. Walked around for hours, experienced outdoor nature and intricately ... greenery, plants and flowers. Beautiful fountains. Really enjoyed the historical enactments too - learned a lot about the History of the US Military!
MoreCantigny definitely is worth the visit this summer, especially with its Feast of the Senses exhibit that runs only til Labor Day. Featuring tree swings, musical swings, and other exhibits featuring the sounds, sights, and smells of summer, in addition to its gardens, water features, and meandering paths, it's a wonderful time for all ages. And of course it's always free--you're only charged to park.
MoreWe came here on a cool morning. The person at the information desk was very helpful in giving us an overview of what we should do. We enjoyed listening to the short video at the welcome area to get an overview of McCormick’s life. We liked viewing the First Division museum and the gardens. The home was closed for a private event.
MoreColonel Robert R. McCormick's legacy Cantigny (say Can-teeny) is a gem in the Chicago suburbs. There are beautiful gardens, art exhibits, war museum, battle re-enactments, car shows, 5K Run-Walks, classes and seminars for young and old, the McCormick Estate and a fantastic golf course with a clubhouse Sunday brunch to die for. I have attended wine tastings in the estate with a group and Rockin' for the Troops hosted by Gary Sinise out on the vast grounds. There are festivals, holiday firewworks, ground walks, holiday marts, interactive dinners such as Murder in the Mansion and other fun events. And, as always, veterans are always welcome and treated like kings. Cantigny offers memberships.
MoreThe Noel Lounge at Christmas at Cantigny was fantastic. the cocktails were creative and delicious. the crab cakes were a perfect blend of crabmeat and seasoning. the cheese and charcuterie selections were varied and unusual. all the food was good and our server Brian was attentive without being intrusive. It was our second visit this season and we will definitely be back next year, or for other lounge events they do throughout the year. as icing on the cake the house and gardens were festive and beautiful despite the cold.
