For a real taste of the Old West, come by the Stockyards area any afternoon and you will be treated to a mini-cattle drive sponsored by the City of Fort Worth. Fort Worth is proud of its Cowtown moniker, and wants to give tourists and locals a chance to see real cowboys and cattle in action. The cowboys dress in authentic turn-of-the-century clothing, and use period saddles and equipment. There are two separate cattle drives each day. Both start at the eastern end of Exchange Avenue, then move west towards the Cowtown Coliseum before turning and heading back to the pen.

tripadvisorThis was a fun way to watch the longhorns up close but in a small cattle parade, not a larger scale.
MoreThe Herd walking down the street was different and interesting, the Longhorn's bored with their twice daily walk, the cowboys more interested and looking what they were. It added to the old west atmosphere and provided business for the restaurants and shops and generally well done and not to be missed. Take TexRail from Dallas Union Station and catch the yellow bus to the stockyard for the 11:30 parade.
MoreWe were really looking forward to the Longhorn Cattledrive in the historic Fort Worth stockyards area and this did not dissapoint. To be honest the Stockyards are a very disneyland type tourist trap full of cowboy attractions and the like. The Cattle Drive, however, was superb.OK - it was just a dozen or so longhorns and it was just half a mile of so, but it doesnt take a massive amount of imagination to conjour up images from the late 1800s of cowboys and real cattle drives. You have to get there (we went on a Friday so not even a weekend) possibly 15 to 20 mins before the drive to get a front row space on the pavement, but its worth it.Visiting the coralle where the longhorns are paddoclked is easy (very close to the main road) and free. There are knowledgeable cattlefolks intermittently available to answer questions on the longhorns.Be a massive shame to miss this if you are in Fort Worth.
MoreIt was a very fun environment with plenty to do for kids and adults! We enjoyed the maze, watching the cattle drive, and shopping/eating in around the area!
More2 cattle drives a day- covering a few blocks. On Saturday, the later drive was very crowded! Sunday at 11:30 was much better. Enjoyable and fun!
