tripadvisor2 of the homes were supposed to be open when I visited. Of the others, 1 closed and 1 occupied by members for Xmas planning. The 3rd (supposedly open was not, though I tried twice and was assured it was manned). However the East Terrace house was certainly worth its modest cost. Sprawling (though not huge) creation added to in succession over the years, the docent - a little old lady, but a fiesty Texan - led an in depth small group tour pausing to explain many items in the houe and its history. Possible they don't get too many visitors, there was certainly no rush to finish :) Tower not accessible at the moent, though I suspect it could be. Something like 16 exterior doors in the place - enjoyable experience once I found the open building (!) (slight drive away from the center proper - you cannot walk it)
MoreTour of Earle - Napier - Kinnard House 1858-1869. Unique home especially as many of the owners were women; unusual for the time. Great stories about the sassy independent women that were part of the history. This was a great experience, thanks to my tour guide, Carol.
MoreI don't usually visit places like this, but this was absolutely a blast to walk through these historical homes, find out the history of Waco, and a cheap experience to have. I would recommend this as a option of fun to do's in Waco.
MoreHistoric Waco Foundation proudly presents for public it's four museum homes , plus the adorable office/headquarters located at 810 S. 4th Street in Waco ( conveniently located just 1 block off of I-35 at the 4th Street ).All homes are located in the downtown corridor ( also very near the Silo district ! ). Sel-guided or Docent guided tours of the homes are available . Please google HWF to find out the exact tour/open times , as they sometimes do change with the time of the year. ). The houses are all former homes of prominent Waco founders & citizens. A wealth of information on their life-styles can be gleaned from the tours ! It's a wonderful way , especially for children , to learn of life pre-electricity, runnuing water , automobiles , etc. life-style of Americans !
MoreWe had time to visit only two homes, but the tour guides were a wealth of information! $5 a person helps keep the lights on...go see the uniqueness of old Texas. Mrs Carilyn Casey was an among guide!
