Lake Whitney State Park is about an hour south of the Dallas/ Ft. Worth Metroplex and is on the eastern side of Lake Whitney. There are 7 camping loops that hug the shores of the deep and clear waters of the lake. Of the 135 camp sites, 43 have full hook-ups. There are 27 screened shelters, a group hall w/kitchen, a small park store, 3 playgrounds, picnic and swimming area, boat ramp and a fish cleaning area. You'll enjoy the 2 hiking trails; both are about a mile long and rated 'easy'. Lake Whitney is a great place for camping, boating, fishing, hiking or just relaxing and enjoying nature.

The state park is a little different in its landscape. Once you find the spots to enter the lake and get used to the area it is nice. A couple of hiking trails are available. Two bridges is definitely the best of the two. Beautiful sunsets! Wildlife is abundant. Nice spacious sites but it would be nice if they could keep up with the mowing. The grass/weeds in the bluebird campsite area was taller than our dachshunds. We were told they are shorthanded. They had plenty on hand to patrol! We were told not to park on the grass but neighbors in the same area were parking on the grass. What's up with that??? Parked at a dead end road to access the lake and got reprimanded again. Most sites are marked reserved but no one was ever there. A solid week of empty sites.A Park ranger told me they do that to keep people from parking and accessing the lake! Controlling the area. Glad we came but doubtful a return trip is on our agenda.

We choose this state park due to locality. We were visiting an aunt on hospice and this was the closest RV pace to her. We had a very nice suprise. The Staff was very friendly. The sites were well shaded. The park where we were was very quiet. Didn’t get to explore the park like I wanted but will do the next time!

We visit in our RV every Spring Break and always will. The bluebonnets are in bloom right now, and it’s gorgeous. Clean facilities and very nice lake.
