The selection of exhibits at Houston's Museum of Fine Arts covers both modern and ancient art and represents the talent of artists from Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. You will find Frederic Remington's fine Western art mingling with medieval pieces and the work of early European masters. Paintings are abundant, but the lovely sculpture garden here is also worth viewing. Both the Glassell School of Art and the Hirsch Library for Art History call this museum home. Film buffs love the museum for its weekly showings of classic and foreign films. A gift shop and restaurant are both on hand to satisfy your hunger after a day of exploring.

tripadvisorWe're museum members and really enjoy coming to the MFAH. They have a wonderful permanent collection spread across three large buildings and also have an array of ever changing exhibits. For this visit, we saw the Picasso-Matisse exhibit, and it was really well done and fun to see. Loved all the bright, colorful artwork and how everything was displayed and well marked. Note the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays; they have free admittance to the permanent collection on Thursdays. Don't miss the sculpture garden across the street and the pretty light tunnels that connect the buildings. Parking is available for a fee in their parking garages, and there's also a cafe and a fine dining restaurant if you get hungry. Allow a full day if you want to try to see it all.
MoreGyula Kosice is an artist, originally from Romania, but resident of Argentina. This is the first show of his work in Houston, and it is well worth seeing. Clearly a unique view of the world, with fascination for aquatic and hydraulic ideas. Several dozen such pieces are placed on walls, stands and illuminated in a creative manner. There is a lot of motion, sound and colors. While we would not want to own any one of these objets d'art, we were happy MFAH offered this exhibit.
MoreWe're museum members and enjoy the frequently rotating exhibits at the MFAH. For this visit, we came to see Floating World, an immersive exhibit blending light, sound, and fog. The museum itself is excellent with art spread across three expansive buildings. For some reason parking was really difficult on this day; they have parking garages, but they were all full, and we drove around for 45 minutes looking for a parking spot. Ultimately my husband just dropped me off so I could dash in and explore the exhibit. I did enjoy it but was disappointed that we couldn't enjoy it together. If you just want to visit the permanent collection, it's free to visitors on Thursdays. Museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There's a cafe and a sculpture garden as well. Don't miss the fun light tunnels that connect the buildings.
MoreWe came to visit the Museum on a rainy day and were pleasantly surprised. At first it is a bit confusing to find the entrances as it consists of several connected buildings. The collection on display are very well curated and you should spend at least 2h to get a good overview. Highly recommendable museum – go and see it.
MoreHave seen a number of major European galleries. The one in Houston is easily comparable to some of the middle range galleries. Lots of interesting things to see.
