Having stayed at true 5 star hotels before, I can confidently say this property does not belong in that category. While the hotel location is fantastic and the lobby is genuinely stunning, our stay unfortunately did not live up to the advertised rating or our expectations. The issues began at check in. With an official check in time of 3:00 PM, we arrived at 4:30 PM to find our room still wasn't ready. We were then told it would be another 45 minutes, leaving us stranded in the lobby when we had somewhere to be and needed to get ready. We didn’t get into our room until 5:15. Because the room took so long, we were forced to rush just to get ready once we finally got inside. The only compensation offered for the massive delay was free drinks from the bar. When we let the staff know that we don't drink, no alternative solution or gesture was offered.Once we finally got into the room, the condition was disappointing. The rooms are incredibly loud, and you can hear every neighboring door slam. Maintenance and cleanliness missed the mark across the board: we found chips in the paint and drywall, drapes that were stained and falling off the track, and an air conditioning unit missing its vent cover entirely, leaving a large open hole in the wall. Housekeeping was equally subpar, featuring dusty bathroom vents, water stains on the shower glass, stains on the bedding, and a few stray hairs that certainly weren't ours. The rest of the staff members we interacted with were friendly and the bed itself was comfortable for sleeping, but the overall room experience felt more like a 3 or 4 star stay at best. The property has great bones and a beautiful first impression, but the guest rooms and management processes need serious attention.

Fabulous boutique hotel in a wonderful neighborhood. Entire experience made being in Houston for cancer treatments much better. Delicious food and excellent service from everyone, especially George.

La Colombe d’Or is one of my favorite hotels in Houston. I’m in the city frequently for work, and it has become a place I genuinely look forward to returning to.The historic mansion is absolutely beautiful and full of character, and the bar is one of my favorite spots in Houston for an after-work cocktail. When it comes to staying overnight, though, I personally prefer the Tower or the Bungalows for the extra space and privacy. The entire property is charming, beautifully appointed, and feels intimate and distinctive in a way that sets it apart from the typical luxury hotel. Whether you’re visiting Houston for business or a weekend away, you really can’t go wrong with a stay at La Colombe d’Or. It’s a Houston favorite of mine and one I’m always happy to return to.

The staff was friendly, but the Tower Room I stayed in was subpar and felt dirty. There was no hand soap or body wash, and the bottom shelf of the closet was filled with dirty towels. For a five-star hotel, it lacked the attention to detail I expected.
