Those who appreciate the European decorative arts will eventually find their way to this mansion in the River Oaks district. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and tall trees on five acres (2.02 hectares), the mansion is elegantly furnished in the Italian, English and Roman styles. Although the estate is now part of the Museum of Fine Arts, it was originally owned by the local Masterson family who hired architect John F. Staub in the 1950s to design a modern version of an Italian country estate. The exhibits at this museum range from 17th and mid-19th Century artifacts that were originally part of the Mastersons' enviable art collection. Admittance is by reservation only. Call to schedule a guided, peaceful tour through a contemporary palace.

tripadvisorInteresting museum. In a house which was built to hold Reinzi's collection. This is not a House museum so the interest is only in the collection which has few highlights - a good short add-on to visit to Bayou Bend but not a destination unto itself.
MoreSpectacular gardens, gorgeous 19th century art and furnishings, helpful staff. I visited on a beautiful Sunday and the staff were wonderful about making suggestions and providing history about the art work. Set back on a long drive in a beautiful residential neighborhood, this is both camouflaged by the surroundings neighborhood and very accessible with close, easy parking.
MoreJo Ann was our guide/docent and she did an excellent job of explaining the history of the house, the family who lived in the house and the notable art in each of the rooms. This is an interesting and beautiful home to visit. We spent about 1-1/2 hours on the tour and didn’t have time for the gardens, though I would have liked to been able to walk around. There is parking on site. Make advance reservations.
MoreThe Rienzi is a beautiful home (circa 1950’s?), very much in style with other elegant homes of that era. While the home is elegant, it also feels quite comfortable, livable. Be sure to tour the grounds outside in addition to the inside of the home. The museum personnel are very helpful. Allow 45 minutes. Not recommended for children. Audio is available via cell phone.
MoreBeautiful house and grounds. I'm giving five stars even though I'm not a fan of European decorative arts. I do wish they had more interpretive signs as I didn't want to do the audio tour. The grounds featured lush greenery and was peaceful but there weren't contiguous walking paths so part of the time we were on grass or road. Not a museum for young children. About 45 minutes to tour the inside.
