Houston will be forever grateful for George Hermann's generous gift of land in the early 1900s. The park spans over 445 acres (180 hectares) and is one of Houston's oldest public parks. People from all walks of life gather here for various events throughout the year. A monstrous statue of Sam Houston welcomes you to the park. Those seeking an educational outing for themselves or the kids will find many options inside the park. The Museum of Natural Science, Houston Zoo, Burke Baker Planetarium and an IMAX theater are all popular attractions. Lighter family entertainment is available in the form of pedal boats, train rides and other activities.

tripadvisorDidn't have a lot of time but the Japanese Garden and reflecting pool were great. Very peaceful. Not busy at all (during a weekday). Free parking. Took the train ride ($6 per person) to see the rest of the park.
MoreThis is masterfully crafted. I can’t imagine how many hours it took to complete these majestic creatures. Check Herman Park map for location details for the remaining few days. It is a traveling exhibit so be sure to discover whether it will be in a city near you. “From Tuesday, April 1, through Wednesday, April 30, The Great Elephant Migration can be experienced at Hermann Park for free during the Park’s operating hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The majority of herd are located in the Park’s newest destination, the Commons, with additional pods at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and in the Texas Medical Center.“The Great Elephant Migration is more than an art installation—it is a call to action and a place to experience joy,” said Cara Lambright, president & CEO of Hermann Park Conservancy. “By bringing this breathtaking global effort to Hermann Park, we are inviting our community to be part of a worldwide movement to protect ecosystems, eradicate invasive species, and inspire change. These are shared values that span continents.”
MoreThis park is very large and great for walking. I saw a lot of birds. Even a couple hawks. And a big catfish in the river. A nice place.
MoreThis, to me, is one of the best , inner city, public parks, in America. It has something for everyone and keeps on giving. Should I list all the amenities? Hermann is on the southern edge of the museum district and has 5 or 6 museums and exhibit spaces within walking distance including the incredible Museum of Fine Art, the Museum of Natural History, The Museum of Medicine and the Human Body, Children's Museum, and on and on. The Houston zoo is also part of the park along with McGovern Lake and paddle boats. Ok, I don't want to bore you but ... a great miniature train ride, an incredible children's play area and mini water park...a beautiful New old fashion carousel, landscaping and beautiful live oak trees and shady foliage throughout, a small but beautifully laid out botanical garden and fountains with a grass covered, walkable ziggurat, a Japanese garden, a huge cascading fountain to an extended reflecting pool and obelisk square ,the Miller Outdoor Theatre, the 18 hole golf course, the shady walking trails, access to Metro rail from the west and north sides of the park...maybe New York's Central park can compete, maybe Balboa park in San Diego can compete but ....only drawback..it's so popular on weekends finding parking will be half a mile or more away and you will feel like you're in crowded NYC...but what a great park...
MoreI really enjoyed the golf course and it´s view, there is a golf store near called thegolfcult. They sell also have a store on ebay with incredible Boston and Caddy Golf Bags.
