tripadvisorWe entered the temple grounds and saw a lovely statue in the water at the front of the temple. We walked into the main shrine room and then spoke to the staff. They were so friendly. When we walked around a monk invited us for lunch as they had pizza on the outside area where all the youth were getting the temple ready for the Chinese new year. The monk had one of the members show us around and we enjoyed the tour. We visit any and every Buddhist temple we can because they are always so kind and welcoming. The statues here are just beautiful. Felt renewed when we left.
MoreThis small, Hinayana based temple is located neat Houston's Chinatown area off Bellaire. The temple consists of a Grand Hall a smaller mediation hall, a Dhamma Graden and offices. The entrance is fronted by a large statue of the Bodhisattva Guan Yin, A Bodhisattva of compassion, mercy and kindness. The focal point of the Grand Hall is the large, white Buddha statue seated in full lotus position and showing the bhumisparsa (Calling the Earth to Witness) mudra. The front and front side walls are dominated by over 1,000 small Buddha images all in individual niches. Directly to the rear of the Grand Hall is a small garden with a number of benches and large trees.l AT the time of our visit one of the lime trees was ready to give up its fruit and another was covered with small limes. The garden is surrounded by a suite of offices and the kuti of the Venerable of the temple. The small meditation room in the rear is dominated by a 1,000 armed radiating Bodhisattva seated on a lotus base and surrounded by Guan Yin images in niches along the walls. The lady in the office of the Grand Hall was most helpful in answering many of my questions. A little out of the way but if you're planning to spend any time int he Chinatown area, worth the trip. Open from 10:00AM - 4:00PM. No fee is asked but donations are accepted.
