tripadvisorThe day we visited there was a drum programming workshop in their FL studio. Story time and music is available for parents with kids aged 2-5 years old. Check out their website for the latest and greatest activities.
MoreI went there during the recent Passport to Libraries contest. Parking is a nightmare. The parking lot there has no real showing of how to get into it. I circled the block 3 times looking for a place to park.Arch Street parking is confusing as half the street has signs and the upper half has ONE Parking meter ONEThe middle part has NO SIGNS stating either. I parked as someone else was vacating the slot.I went inside and asked the security guard where the library was He rudely told me UPSTAIRS!I took the elevator up to the second floor. The place was huge! I could have spent a whole day there exploring and was invited to do so.I went back to my car after getting my passport stamped. I wasn't more than 5 minutes.I look and I got a parking Citation for $45 dollars. I was disgusted by this. I paid for it under protest but didn't want to contest it because if they didn't approve my request, it would cost me another $20The DPW needs to put a sign in the middle stating No parking etc. I will not go back there it's too expensive
MoreI like that vibrant library in town. Have visited that very place many times because a family member lives there and I love reading.
MoreHPL is now open and also has an online museum pass reservation system for visiting local museums. You will need a HPL library card to take advantage of this service and you are able to book up to 30 days in advance. These free passes (some are only reduced but still a benefit for a family) are printable and need to be brought to the selected museum. There is no need to return anything to the library. It is suggested to check with the museums directly to see if they are still open and not closed due to the pandemic. As of 1/2021, the museums that are participating include the Basketball Hall of Fame (reduced rates); CT Historical Society (free); New Britain Museum of Art (free); CT Trolley Museum (free); Florence Griswold Museum (free) and more.
MoreA great library with loads of quiet space and areas to chill with a vast array of services and learning resources. It would be awesome if you could get free parking with a library card but all in all well worth a visit!
