tripadvisorNice variety and well kept. Makes a nice AC stop and enjoy some of the past. Great staff and they have good prices. No issues
MoreThe bookstore itself is quaint and well-stocked, if a bit disorganized. We've been twice and found great books each time. However, the woman working the counter each time was hostile toward guests of all types, almost refusing to acknowledge people. We saw two groups come in for some kind of scavenger hunt, and she wouldn't even respond when one member praised the bookstore really highly in front of her. As I said, the store itself is a pleasure to spend time in, but only if you avoid interacting with this employee.
MoreBeautifully organized shop. Used books are in great condition. Friendly owner. Enjoyed browsing the shelves. Worth a stop.
MoreIt's advertised on the Galveston Maps you find on the island but, if you take a trip to Galveston, avoid this store. Don't bother bringing your children here and don't DARE bring any sort of drink in. The older gentleman that works here will confront you immediately. Apparantly, they've had a spill in the store before, and now having kids in thier store triggers them. Your passionate young readers are better off anywhere else.
MoreThis store has always made me uncomfortable. Every time I go in, the interactions with the female at the front have been very bizarre and socially awkward, at best. Last week took the cake though...I was outside about 8 feet from their front door with my mother and a veteran, who had lost his leg fighting for our country (who just happened to be black and homeless) and the woman that owns it or works the counter, (but I assume owns due to the sheer amount of attitude and rudeness) walks out and starts aggressively staring at us, more the man with us than us 2 white women, dead silent, with her hands on her hips, like we're standing in a public library with a lit joint or something. The man we were talking to, was not drinking, was not on drugs, we were actually standing there talking about Jesus because of the shirt I was wearing and she walks out the door like she works for the H*llfire Club and her ears were burning. This is in the middle of the afternoon on a Friday, not 1am on a Saturday for starters and all we were doing is having a conversation, on a PUBLIC sidewalk with someone. She stared so rudely for so long my mother had to ask her, Do you need something, can we help you? She then eyeballed the man we were talking to and said, Just heard raised voices, is there a problem?, very rudely. I'm calling bull doody on that, as we were all being quiet and laughing, she was coming out to police whoever she could in Galveston's official no fun zone as we now call it. Obviously doesn't have any customers if she has time to come out and try to start an argument between people having fun, for no reason whatsoever, other than she may be racist and anti-homeless. We laughed about Satan rearing his ugly head and moved away to The Black Pearl, where they have some common decency and offered the gentleman we were with a cup of water to take with him. I pray the woman in the bookstore is never permanently disfigured, disabled, or homeless. It's time to have compassion instead of treating our veterans like dirty outcasts. I'm not asking you to let him set up a tent outside your store, maybe just learn some common courtesy and etiquette when it comes to minding your own business, you're a bookstore, there are plenty of books about it!
