Martha gave an excellent tour! We couldn't believe this gem was by donation. It was incredible. Thank you Martha!

Great little hidden gem. Many buildings available for tour built by German immigrants.Buildings are first with historical furniture and personal items. Easy walking around the exhibit area. Free tour, there is a donation box at the end of the tour.

This was an absolute gem!! We had the best tour guide through the museum. He was very knowledgeable and engaged our kids with lots of interesting details. The series of preserved homes was magnificent. The people were beyond kind. One of the office ladies offered us access to the river from her own home due to all the local water access being closed due to the pandemic. Go Here!! And it is all free. They do ask for a donation, but you will be glad to give it. This is one of the best museum experiences we have ever had and we have been to a lot.

Be sure to call before you go. If it is raining you won't get the tour (and we didn't) because you'll track mud into the buildings. Wish that they had noted this on their website. All we got was a booklet and told that we can drive around and see the outside of the buildings - which took five minutes. We were on an extended vacation of Texas and drove an extra two hours to see... really nothing.

We stopped for a visit as my oldest (8) is reading books about the early settlers of New Braunsfels. It was absolutely perfect for him! I also had my other children (5 and 1) with me and the tour guide was perfect! She kept them attentative and kept the tour moving so they didn't get bored. I could see spending hours here, examing all the materials and facts within each building, but with my littles, we kept it to about an hour/hour and a half. It was perfect! Our tour guide knew her audience and adapted accordingly. Thank you for a wonderful visit and for preserving our history!
