tripadvisorIt is a very nice park that offers a few amenities including a kids’ play area with a covered picnic area. Great for a kid’s birthday party. There is a driving loop around the park with numerous areas where you can pull over and park. It is mostly a large open expanse with a few ponds and a river running along its edge. They do have a boat ramp and trailer parking available. They have lots of picnic tables spread throughout the park, some with BBQ pits. Some picnic areas only have one or two tables, which is nice if you want a quiet area. Others have parking spots that would be good for a small RV. It has a few viewing platforms. The main one used for bird spotting offers a great view overlooking the park. They have a scoreboard noting the number and types of birds that migrate through the area. Not many birds today but we did see a few, along with deer and javelinas. Overall, it is a great park to visit depending upon what you want to do. We wanted to hike a few trails but there was only one. It wasn’t a long trail, but it did go through a wooded area and had a good elevation, which gave us a panoramic view of the park and surrounding area. It’s not a difficult trail but the path is uneven and there are steps which are irregular. Well worth the visit. The only downside, other than just one hiking trail, is the trash we saw along the trail and river viewing platform. Mostly drink and food containers. Wished we’d taken a trash bag with us on the hike.
MoreWent this past fall as they were tallying the Hawks. Very nice and knowledgeable folks. We did see javelina with their young reds. Green Jays, and a good variety of birds were present.
MoreSeventy seven acre park on the Nueces River that is home to a Fall Hawk Watch. Fishing and BBQ areas. Playgrounds. Road goes around the park. Two marsh lakes with excellent birding ops. Hawk watch bird blind and platform with hummingbird feeder. We saw many avocets, northern shovelers, shore birds, burnings and indigos during sunset visits.
MoreWe went to this park from CC; we had trouble finding it. We wanted to see some hawks, but didn't see any. We saw a few birds, and a duck in the stream near the road.
MoreBeautiful place to go hiking, running, or even kayaking! There is a boat ramp beside a parking lot next to the river. There’s paved and unpaved trails. Not a lot of playground equipment, but still amazing for nature lovers. Picnic tables and bbq pits are everywhere.
