tripadvisorThis trail was an absolute CF. I've been on better primitive trails. It is one way in and one way out no other options. There are NO maps and little trail indicators. You'd be better off walking barefoot on a coral reef. You cannot actually enjoy the trail because you have to always look down so that you don't trip and break your neck. I do not recommend, do so at your own risk.
MoreThe San Gabriel River flows through Georgetown and is best enjoyed at the Blue Hole (south fork) as well as 180-acre rural San Gabriel Park located along Morrow Street. This is a great little park where the north and south forks of the San Gabriel come together. The river is dammed up creating a nice long watershed for birds and fish here. The park includes your expected range of children's playground areas, BBQ pits and tables for visitors to enjoy meals. There is designated hiking and biking trail and lots of area to fish in the San Gabriel River. In the past the river was blue and very clean at the park. These days, there is quite a bit of vegetation building up, especially around the dam. Really enjoyed walking along the river at San Gabriel Park during a recent visit to Georgetown. This is a great place for green and recreational space for residents of G-town and students at nearby Southwestern University.
MoreThis was our first visit to the San Gabriel River and park but it won’t be our last. It is like a magical place hidden in the middle of a busy, populated area. The river winds around the park and even flows over a small rock formation to cascade down onto a swiftly moving river. There are soccer fields and baseball fields and gorgeous trees all around. It is so big and beautiful, that it is hard to believe that it is free. There are people running and watching/ playing various sports, but the park is so vast and peaceful, that you don’t notice anything but the beauty surrounding you.
MoreSan Gabriel Park is a beautiful, relaxing place to walk, jog, picnic, play with the kids, or just nap under the giant spreading Live Oak trees. There are tables, BBQ pits, playscapes and miles of walkways. It never seems too crowded - even on holidays. There is plenty of parking and you can even park on the side of the road that borders the park on the opposite side of the river.
MoreI grew up near the San Gabriel River and have enjoyed viewing it over the years. I enjoy seeing the river in Georgetown and Circleville and near Granger. I used to enjoy fishing for Catfish many years ago.
