Old Baldy is a great one-time experience, especially if you're looking for a little excercise and a great way to take in Wimberley and the surrounding Hill Country. Be prepared for a lot of stairs (like 200 steps). The view from the top is nice, although the surrounding brush has grown tall so limits some of the 360-degree scenery. Parking is very limited (around 10 spaces), so timing your visit can make a big difference. We went around 5 p.m. and only 1 other person so we didn't have to worry about passing crowds on the narrow staircase.

Nice hike up ~200 steps. Panoramic views at the top. Not too difficult, but also not much to do once you’ve reached the summit. No railings at the top, so keep an eye on your toddlers! Not worth taking an über or Lyft. Word to the wise: If you’ve got a car, and you’re doing this on the third weekend of the month in the summer, the nearby town of Gruen has a great market that’s much more interesting.

We have been coming to our timeshare on Canyon Lake for years to tube the river. We are now doing more hikes. Consequently we discovered Old Baldy. We are 68 & 66 and the trek up the steps wasn't difficult. There are landings along the way to rest and take in the panoramic views. I highly recommend doing this.

Stairs and more stairs. This is a cute little park with stairs to the top. There are small flat areas you can take a second to catch your breath. I really enjoyed once up there getting to the top was a little challenging for me, but it was a great view.
