tripadvisorCame to see a friend perform at Frontera Fest 2023. She bought the ticket for me, so in all honesty I didn't look at the website prior to driving 45 minutes into Austin to attend the show. Upon arrival I was told I had to wear a MASK?????? And if I refused I could not attend. Come on. Please- we have all been vaccinated, had Covid, and been vaccinated again. I capitulated, becasue I love my friend and she asked me to come and support her. I left immeditately after her perfomance and threw the supplied mask in the trash. I have been to big and small theaters in Houston, in NYC, in LA, all in 2022, and NO ONE required a mask. If you feel vulnerable, wear a mask to protect yourself, but asking every audience member to wear one in 2023 is posturing and makes no sense. It's very very off putting at this point. The pandemic is OVER. I'll never come back here again. And that is too bad because this place was a hidden gem for the kind of lackluster Austin theater scene.
MoreWe appreciate and love live theatre. We have a tendency to gravitate more to local, small theatre productions. We absolutely love HYDE PARK THEATRE in Austin Texas. Do not let the small setting or “rustic” aura keep you away. The quality of productions and professionalism is first rate. The intimate setting allows one to “feel” the smallest expressions from the performers..Ken Webster, artistic director, will likely great you at the door.Just check it out— you will subsequently return for sure!RNelson (Austin,TX)
MoreSaw The Moors. An interesting but odd play. Very good to excel, ent acting. Small, intimate theater. Seats are a tad uncomfortable. Will definitely go back.
MoreLoved most of the shows we saw Jan 29. Disappointed in delays by one or two people. Will probably come to the venue again for other events.
MoreGreat local flair, a nice place near the city to enjoy a show.
