It is located in the University of Texas campus and houses a large variety of Latin American art, American art and European work. With an atrium that extends 70 feet (21.3 meters) above the stone floors, this museum offers a unique, natural space. Temporary exhibits are constantly changing, with fresh work being showcased regularly. tripadvisorIf you’re in Austin and want an easy, enjoyable museum visit, the Blanton Museum of Art is a great pick. It’s right on the UT campus and has a nice mix of permanent collections and rotating exhibits, so there’s usually something new to see.I lucked out and visited during a data-driven art show—basically an installation that turns digital data into art. It was creative, a bit unexpected, and definitely the highlight of my visit.Upstairs, you’ll find a wider range of pieces, from American and European classics to Latin American works, plus a few interesting installations along the way. It’s not overwhelming, which makes it easy to explore at your own pace.Best part? Free admission on Tuesdays. Hard to beat that for a relaxed, culture-filled outing.
MoreWalked here from my hotel near SOCO. Happened to be in Austin for the week and found out on a Tuesday there was free admission to the museum-signed up online and it was easy to show my barcode to get in. Beautiful museum- a hop and skip to University of Texas campus if you like want to make am afternoon out. Lots of college students and elementary and really nice exhibit.
MoreThe Blanton is a lovely building but the art is just ….okay. Some nice exhibits but it’s not as good as either most big-city museums or many smaller college museums. Also relatively expensive. The Ellsworth Kelly Chapel is beautiful and well worth visiting. A good “rainy day in Austin” activity but keep your expectations reasonable.
MoreWhat a lovely museum. The artists are less well known than you find in a big city museum but the quality of the art is excellent. We enjoyed our visit very much. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours as there is much to see. Only paid parking no free parking.
MoreThis museum is an Austin gem! The works span from ancient Greek to modern, and the building architecture is exceptional. I love the Stacked Waters installation at the entry into the museum. We didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked, particularly in the Hispanic Baroque exhibition. The reason I give three stars centers on lighting. It may have just been me, but it was so dark (especially in the Hispanic Baroque exhibition area), I could barely see the works. I understand that there may have have been a preservation reason for the darkly lit rooms, but it was disappointing that we couldn't see the works better.
