tripadvisorThis is a great museum and right on the main street south. it has a big main room filled with interesting things included a small town buildings. There are 2 barns filled with machinery, and several tractors. And it's free! There is a donation box. The staff had interesting stories about the museum. Don't miss it! It took us 1 1/2 hours to see everything. I took lots of photos!
MoreWhat a delightful museum about life in the panhandle combined with an Art Center. Matched only by the good people running it, especially the Art Center. I was partially touched by the information about the horrific oil plant explosion in 1956. How that must has destroyed and shaped lives throughout this area. I’m sorry that I passed through Dumas so many times not knowing this museum and art center were here. Would have loved to experience it when my sons were little and with me! I’ll be stopping here again!
MoreWe have driven through Dumas many times and usually spend the night at the hotel next door. It was always closed when we got into town. This year we stayed at an AirBnb near the museum. We took our dog and a walk and noticed the outside area was free and had a walking path. It is various large items on display. Some items have more details than other but a nice area to walk. We didn't go inside the museum as we had our dog and with Covid we are staying outside. I hope someday to go inside but good to know the outside is free. So many years we assumed it was closed as the museum was closed. It appears you could walk around it at any time.
MoreThis museum is awesome! It has a lot of information of the area. The people there are terrific! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend to others. Plan to visit again. Loved it!
MoreYou would expect a small museum judging from the front of the building, but there are several buildings and so much to see! Learn about local history from the items that local residents donated to create this treasure. There are things set up in store fronts like a dentist office, laundry, post office, etc which are neat to look at. In another building there are tractors and farm machinery. Still another area has a print shop set up. There is a lot to see, and in fact, we did not have time to see everything there was outside. Plan on spending several hours here. The volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
