tripadvisorWell worth the stop! First, GPS will not get you here. The entrance is off of US 80 (between Franklin St. and E. Monahans Highway). There is a small sign on the south side of the highway. There is a lot to see here and it's all free (donation boxes are available). In addition to the Million Barrell Oil Tank, there are numerous museums. The two we liked the best were the Coca Cola museum and the Rattlesnake Bomber Base museum. There is also a historic house, railroad memorabilia, local history and so much more. The museum is only a short drive off of I-20. If you go, be sure and leave a donation and encourage others to visit.
MoreIf you are passing through it is worth stopping and spending an hour stretching your legs. The history is probably more interesting the the oil tank itself. However, seeing the oil tank brings the history into perspective. They also have several other unique little exhibits, museums. I am glad we stopped.
MoreJust a stop in monohans for a quick geo cache grab and came upon this great museum area. Very nicely kept free and full of great antiques. Stop and stretch your legs.
MoreSomething for everyone and impeccably done! Really neat and clean and way more than the million barrel reservoir! Walk into a telephone operator bldg and see how it was done, and then how it changed. Go into a train car and see rail history, enter the air force museum building and feel the impact of the world wars in Texas! Think you know much about Coca Cola? Think again as you peruse the Coca Cola Museum building! And there's more but they close at 6 so we ran out of time! Check in out and even though it is FREE, it is lighted and air conditioned so give a donation before you go! The only negative was small: Google maps will take you to a dead end, so be sure to enter off of business loop 20!
MoreFree entry to this hidden gem. Donations are accepted and appreciated. Nice variety of displays. Enjoyed the railroad and rattlesnake bomber base displays. Friendly staff
