tripadvisorA nice tour of the property. The guide was quite knowledgeable about the history of the family and the property. She tossed around a lot of names, which was confusing at times. It would be a good idea to research the family tree beforehand. Not bad for 6 bucks. The interior of the house is gorgeous, although several rooms are still under renovation. The guide didn’t know much about how the descendants managed the businesses, but it was still a great tour.
MoreWe took a tour of this historic home furnished with three generations. Interesting to see not only the furnishings but many of the dresses worn in the early 1900’s. Martha at the visitor center was very helpful and entertaining. Spoke about some of the cooking classes they offered and shared some recipes.
MoreThis was such a lovely tour! Who would have thought El Paso would have a hidden gem like this downtown? I’m so happy the state of Texas saw the value in obtaining and maintaining this historic house. Our tour guide, Danielle was beyond any tour guide I’ve ever had. She had so much knowledge and enthusiasm for history and made this home come to life. I want to take Danielle on all my future tours! Go see this house!
MoreIf your into history - this is for you. Learn about El Paso history and the families that came in the very beginning. Good home history
MoreWe checked in across the street at the office then watched a short film detailing the history of the house. Then we were fortunate enough to have a knowledgeable docent, Gloria, who shared her enthusiasm about the house with us. The home is part of the Texas Historical Society. The home is a well preserved adobe structure built in the 1870’s. The same family had lived there for 4 generations and have contributed to the city in many ways. The furniture is original and gives you an interesting perspective of what life was like.
