We took a charter boat out with a local named Captain Gary & his son. We saw where the Weeki Wachee river empties into the Gulf of Mexico, an eagle, a dead otter, 2 manatees, and Hospital hole which used to be a spring but is now an over 100 ft sink hole. This was a great way to spend our time in the area. We also went through the river and saw all the neat homes. There were plenty of people swimming and having a good time.

Best of all, he extended our tour a half hour beyond the allotted time to allow us to observe some manatees near the boat (very unexpected this time of year) and to let us cool off with a swim. Wonderful day in a fascinating ecosystem on a clean and shaded boat. We saw several manatees, some fish, an eagle, and other birds along the coast. The captains and crew are very knowledgeable, friendly, and seem to love their jobs.
