The San Juans are beautiful and Northwind is a wonderful way to see them. The boat is pristine and the cuisine was perfectly tailored to our taste. The crew are pros who really put themselves out to make sure your trip is perfect. We had three great sailing days and gorgeous sunsets plus whales, eagles and sea otters. The boat gently rocked us to sleep. Would love to do it all over again.

We had an incredible experience with Sail the San Juans and highly recommend them! The boat is stunning, and it’s clear that they take immense pride in it. We were fortunate enough to see orcas during our sailing adventure and also enjoyed a separate whale-watching tour from Friday Harbor. John and Jette were exceptionally accommodating with our dietary needs, and the food was absolutely delicious. The islands were breathtaking, the hikes were enjoyable, and the anchoring spots John selected each night were perfectly chosen. Every detail was meticulously planned. As a bonus, having Jenny, a Portuguese Water Dog, on board was a delightful addition! We often fought over who got to sit next to her. We are immensely grateful to John, Jette, and Jenny for the unforgettable trip.

Having just returned from our 3rd trip on Northwind, I wonder if I need say more - after all we wouldn’t have returned a 3rd time if the first 2 times hadn’t been amazing.. But no, I need to tell you why we came back. Looking back to our first trip I recall a little trepidation as the adventure approached. We were about to spend 6 days in close proximity with strangers we had no idea about- what on earth were we facing?? I needn’t have worried, strangers are, after all, friends you haven’t yet met. It became very clear, very quickly that Jon and Jette were past masters at making one feel welcome and we soon felt as if we had known them for ages. As for our fellow guests, we just “clicked “Northwind is a beautiful yacht , expertly sailed by Jon and Jette, when she isn’t performing magic in the galley. By the end of the first week we were all planning a reunion the following year. Year 2 was as good if not better than the first as we all knew each other that bit better and again by the end of the week we were planning a 3rd trip together! So here we are at the end of year 3- the San Juans were beautiful of course but what makes the trip special is the people. Jon and Jette are perfect hosts and along with our fellow guests are now friends . Will there be a 4th reunion, I certainly hope so!

Our cruise with Jon and Jette was a terrific experience that I would like to repeat soon. I enjoyed the sedate pace, the luxuriously equipped boat, the super comfortable mattress, the hikes to see wildflowers and wildlife, the welcoming attention to detail, the professionalism in sailing and hospitality, and the delightful food. As a chef and restaurant owner, I am used to brutally hard work, work that makes me truly appreciate how hard Jon and Jette work as a well-oiled team at taking care of their guests with a seamless ease born of decades on the water. Moreover, I am impressed at the food they produce out of such a tiny galley, beautifully plated and delicious. I cannot recommend a cruise with Sail the San Juans any more enthusiastically.

My sister and I have been traveling a LOT together over the past few years. Last May we decided to sail on the Northwind with Sail the San Juans. We immediately KNEW we had to do this adventure again. Both times we joined a trip and both times we met wonderful and fascinating fellow travelers. This trip was extra special though- there was the addition of Geni, Jon and Jett's precious 8-month-old Portuguese water dog. She was one of the highlights of our trip! She is well- behaved, loving, and gentle. She also has already learned an impressive array of tricks. She even allowed us to put pink bunny ears on her- (see photo). If our suitcases weren't so small, Jon and Jett might be looking for a black curly haired pup in Texas!Other highlights: (how many words am I allowed?) The Northwind: just gorgeous! The wildlife: A deer swimming across a cove we were anchored in for the night, a bald eagle up close while we were kayaking, speckled harbor seals bobbing up in another cove, lots of guillemot birds with their cute red feet, river otters, porpoises jumping by the Northwind as we sailed, a family of orcas, a sea otter, and Stellar seals on a whale watching trip....The food: I will say this: I have NEVER had better meals!!The vibe: Laid back! What is better than sailing the San Juan Islands while listening to a great mix of music, happy hour with appetizers like prosciutto-wrapped prawns and a group of friends?? No makeup for a week. Mostly no shoes. The hosts: Jon and Jett (and Geni) really know how to entertain and make anyone feel at home. Their combined knowledge of the area and sailing (and lots of other things) is unmatched. We are already talking about our next trip on the Northwind! If you read more reviews, you will see many guests are repeat customers! Treat yourself!!
