Right in the middle of the Louisiana State University campus a tiger is prowling. Students can sleep safely, however, as this fearsome creature is the school's own mascot, Mike the Tiger. Following a tradition started in 1936 by Mike Chambers, for whom the tiger is named, Louisiana State is now housing its sixth tiger who they still trot out to bellow a fearsome roar at the school's football home games. Guests with concerns about animal welfare can see Mike in good confidence. The school has managed to keep all of its tigers alive nearly twice as long as wild tigers, meaning families and visitors can enjoy this strange attraction as much as the attraction itself.

tripadvisorReally cool to see the stadium bookstore statues unfortunately we missed Mike but will try again. His enclosure is absolutely beautiful
MoreMike, the LSU mascot, has a multimillion dollar habitat. When we were there, he walked along in front of the glass viewing windows, waded though his pool by the glass windows, and then laid down right in front of us. He is a large, impressive cat.
MoreLSU history is presented in a friendly fun way. We enjoyed the uniqueness of the exhibit and had fun taking photos. A must on college visits or a just trip to BR.
MoreReally, how many colleges have their own tiger cages? Mike XII was huge and if you are lucky enough to have a car come by it seems he loves to chase them, so you get a good view of the grandeur of this animal. On the other hand, is this the best use of university resources, one may wonder?
MoreNot much to see if you are not an LSU fan. It is hard to get to it during a day the University is open as there are many closed roads.
