Canal Walk Walking Tours

By boat or by foot the Richmond Canal Walk is a beautiful and educational experience. Take a guided tour or learn about the site on your own. Trek through wooden steps, cobbled streets, and dirt trails - you certainly won't be bored with all of the pathways this walk offers. Brass disks embedded in the sidewalk, maps, photos and artifacts note historical events and people associated with the canals and locks.

This was a beautiful walk in downtown Richmond VA. Nearby we also took a stroll down Floodwall Park. My kids had a great time putting their hands and feet in the James River.

Was there a couple of years ago and I thought it was very nice. This year though, a lot of graffiti and not being well maintained. It could and was so much nicer. They have to step up their game

Although this is a waterside trail, it definitely has an urban rather than parklike feel. The design and landscaping are excellent, because it is still pleasant even walking under the interstate and along industrial sections. There are also places to experience art and learn some history, as well as a few restaurants along the walk or very nearby. The canal walk connects to some longer trails for biking.
