Take a scary stroll through Lawrenceville's historic downtown district while costumed guides share the history and supernatural lore of the town. The ghost stories include tales about the earliest settlers of Lawrenceville, Civil War soldiers who died in nearby battles, and even haunted objects, like the chandelier that sways slowly when tour groups pass in front of it. Tours begin inside the beautifully restored (and haunted) Aurora Theatre and include a visit inside the old jail, where the spirit of a former slave is said to reside. Many tourists claim to experience paranormal activity on the tour, especially inside the jail.

tripadvisorI've done a lot of ghost tours over the years: Roswell, GA (several times); Saint Augustine, FL; New Orleans, LA... I had some high hopes for this one. The theatricality of the tour seriously cut away from any interest the stories may have had for me. In other words, the stories the guide was trying to tell was completely lost behind the character he was portraying. I ended up spending most of the rest of the night trying to find the stories that were only half told or were barely referenced, including: the lynching of Charlie Hale, the Ponce De Leon/Royal Palm Southern railroad crash, the lightning strike deaths at Lawrenceville Female Seminary, etc. Again, any interesting historical bits were lost to the theatricality of the role played by the tour guide, to the point that the stories felt unfinished, a side note to the character being portrayed by the guide. Now, I can understand the need to make your tour stand out from all the others. While everyone else is giving the history and the ghost stories, the Lawrenceville Ghost Tour focuses on giving a show. The stories are there. The history is there. It's just all lost in the over the top showmanship, where the tour guide had built himself in a backstory involving a real train crash that happened in 1926. Had I known about that going in, would I have gone? Probably not, truth be told. Will I come back next year, like I have done for Roswell and will do for Saint Augustine and New Orleans? Probably not, as well. In short, if you're expecting a historical ghost tour, give this one a pass. I would have loved for this to be good, but to me, it was a little too much time spent on character development and too little spent on history.
MoreSo, my family and I definitely weren’t expecting this tour to be theatrical. The guide acted and spoke with an accent the entire time, not to mention even sang at one point. It made the stories seem very unreal due to the fact she was acting them out so much and throwing in obvious embellishments. The tour went to some pretty cool spots, but could’ve visited even more if so much time wasn’t spent acting per each spot. It was also a little weird to be asked to tip at the end. Other than those things, it was a fun Halloween thing to do and we did get to see inside an old jail. Would recommend if you’re nearby Lawrenceville and want to learn a little about it.
MoreMy husband and I always so to a ghost tour before Halloween. The Lawrenceville tour is far the best we have ever been to. Their create an amazing atmosphere, interesting, memorable.
MoreIf you really want an amazing ghost tour, do Roswell GA Ghost Tour. The Lawrenceville ghost tour had zero facts, the tour guide didn't explain anything, or answer any questions. I had much rather hear real facts, then have to listen to very bad acting. And they do ask for tips, as where the website say, you will never be ask for tips by our the tour guides.
MoreA novel & spooky adventure- your kids won't complain about being bored, especially the younger teens. Our guide was adorable & charming! She stayed in character & kept us entertained throughout the whole tour. Choose a cool, clear night & wear comfortable walking shoes for optimum enjoyment. FYI: We ate dinner at the Mexican Restaurant right across from the Tour's Meeting Place. It was one of the WORST restaurants we've ever been to - I forgot the name, but it was on a corner facing the main street.
