Littleton Museum Historical Museum ·$

The Littleton Museum might not sound like the most interesting museum in Denver, but it ranks up there for history buffs and generally curious folks. Located just outside of downtown Littleton, the museum is home to all kinds of examples of the town's history and culture, from industry and architecture to education and art. The Littleton Museum boasts an award-winning building and long hours for a museum, as well as interactive exhibits for children and rotating art exhibitions relating to the town. Be sure to check out the outdoor portion of the museum; a preserved barn and farmhouse on the original land with all the interiors restored for exploration!

Our family has fallen in love with the Little Britches series, so when our summer roadtrip took us through Denver, we made a point of stopping at the Littleton Museum for a couple of hours. The museum is lovely, and there happened to be an event where a lot of volunteers were dressed in historically accurate clothing and speaking on various topics, which were all interesting. We were more than a little disappointed that there was no reference anywhere to Ralph Moody/Little Britches, although the museum’s website still has some good information.

The Museum is set on 40 acres and has exhibition galleries, lecture halls, research centre and the main attractions, two 19th Century working farm sites, one from 1860 & 1890. The farms are worked by volunteers & staff and give visitors a firsthand record of farm life in those times. Plus, the animals from sheep, cattle, horses, turkeys, donkeys appear to be well looked after and on our visit were trying to keep warm and out of the snow! The many old buildings, from school room, blacksmith shop, original homesteads to windmill all are worth a quick and were all very interesting. It is free to enter but we left a Lincoln as Thanks. Really friendly & approachable staff, a real credit to Littleton & the organisers!

I am still adjusting to Littleton, and I was taken to the Littleton Museum for the day. It's actually pretty impressive for a free museum, as there are inside portions and two different outside portions. The historical farms were fun to walk around, and each farm has real animals you can look at. We went not long after one of the cows had a baby, so we got to see a baby cow which was cute. In the days of Covid, it's nice to have something to do that is outdoors and it's real nice for kids. There's even a little gift shop inside. If you need something free to do, I would definitely recommend it.

I learned so much about animals and farm life in the late 19th century in Colorado! I could have stayed all day and I am 70. No wonder every child we passed was smiling ear to ear! Especially great is the blacksmith named Chuck. He was like a magician with the kids and they ate it up! Then chatting I find out he is a well-known OB who has delivered 7K+ babies. Np wonder he is so great with the littles. He knew more than anyone else on site about the land and the eras. The animals were so patient and lovely = no touching but plenty of love nonetheless. Why do people got to theme parks etc? Just go to this great outdoor museum! So clean and well-maintained. We def will be back!
