tripadvisorWe recently stayed at the Fort Lewis Lodge in Bath County VA and wanted a place to have lunch. This cafe was highly recommended and I can see why. My husband and I both had the country ham sandwich. Can't rave enough about the bread - not something you find in a grocery store. The ham was outstanding and the little touches like the butter lettuce did not go unnoticed. We split a pasta salad, which was also delicious. After lunch we bought several cookies and they were so good we ate them in the car. If you want fresh and homemade this is definitely the place to go.
MoreI was en route to a hike in the area and stopped in the café just to see what it was like. Noticing that I'd be out for most of the day (and unable to come back in time for lunch), the proprietor pointed me to some takeaway options. Let me just say the three small salads I got and ended up sharing as a picnic lunch were delicious, healthy, and fresh. I'd have them anywhere, any day, for lunch. I did indulge by getting two cookies (to share), and they were equally satisfying. In short: treat yourself to some great food tucked away in this small town, even if you're on-the-go!
MoreWe went here to bide time till lunch time. It's down the street from the Library and Court House. It looks like a quaint place. BUT - when you get inside - the Artwork and Crafts are anything but quaint. It's very High End - AND very reasonable considering the quality. This is a place that I'd go to to get my wife a special bracelet or some special earrings. Even if you just want to window shop - come here. BTW - it primed us for the Arts Show later on.
MoreAlthough the gallery is on the small side there were many beautiful pieces of a wide variety - oils, water colors, spun vases, woven baskets, jewelry, etc
MoreWhat a cute little gem in the heart of warm springs. As you come or leave Bolar Moutain Rec Area coming from North or East you must pass by this little town - have to pay attention as you may miss it all together. On our way back from a week of camping we decided to check this town out, and were delighted to discover this hidden gem. It is literally hidden in the second floor of a gallery displaying interesting forms of art. But if like us you are craving some fresh deli food and coffee - take the stairs up to discover a very unassuming counter, with the most hospitable and eager to serve chap we have ever encountered.Rather than refer you to the menu, he listened to what we were craving that wasn't on the menu (eggs of course for breakfast) and presented us with a delicious egg salad on a bed of very fresh greens on a warm toasted ciabatta. Another and just as tasty creation was the Ham and Cheese sandwich that somehow turned very special with the greens and herbs that were used as bed. The meat was plenty and very different from the one you normally get - must be from a local market too.The meal was served on plates made entirely of naturally fallen palm leaves to provide - a sustainable alternative to disposable foam and plastic products which is perfectly aligned with our preferences. The seating area is just as pleasing to the eye and is set with a view of lushes green to match - see our photos. The place also features interesting items, also with a sustainability and natural products theme, and we picked a unique looking balsa wood bird house for our backyard feathered friends.Do yourself a favor and stop there on your way home - you won't regret we promise!
