The Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver, now residing in downtown's Sakura Square, began as a migrant. The founders wandered from leased gallery space to rented exhibition halls, displaying everything from installations to simple shows by national and international artists. Since settling into a permanent home, the museum has become a prominent force in the area art scene, exhibiting a diverse array of contemporary art, from mixed media to computer and video creations.

Reviews
tripadvisorExcellent art! I loved the concept of the “Movements” show. Staff was friendly. A nice place especially when it’s cold outside. Will definitely return.
MoreMy review of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver is that it was a horrible place to visit if you are looking to view art. I talked with a few of the Staff and I was surprised that the staff that I talked with did not have backgrounds of art. For example Sarah Merrill, Deputy Director, did know what the term contemporary art meant. My mouth dropped to the floor.
MoreGreat exhibit. Cowboy … focusing on minority cowboys of yesteryear and in modern times. I learned a lot, met a wonderful local artist Lailani Abeyta (see photo) and really enjoyed my visit.
MoreOur first visit today was a bad experience. We’d only been there 15 mins. When I took a closer look at a painting which seemed three dimensional, tour guide/docent behind me said, “Sir, Sir, you are getting too close for MY comfort.” She joked that she wouldn’t put her nose on it. I was insulted and upset. She reprimanded me like I was a child. I told her that she was very rude, and I that didn’t appreciate how she spoke to me. She said she was sorry, but it didn’t seem like it. We quickly left. We received a refund from the manager who was very nice and apologetic. We also purchased an item in the gift shop. The employee who helped us was kind and helpful. Sadly, the tour guide/docent ruined it for us. We love and respect museums and would never do anything to cause harm. We’re out of town visitors, and doubt we will ever return.
MoreSuper nice and friendly staff! I had trouble understanding the artist and her exhibit. But if she reaches others, that is what is important. I would go back for a different exhibit/artist.
