Reviews
tripadvisorWonderful stay at The Westin Denver Downtown. The property itself is beautifully maintained, the rooms are well appointed, and the beds were exceptional (if I could have fit the bed into my bag I may have considered it), but what really stood out was the service.A special thank you to Mr. Brad Sorensen and Frederick for their extraordinary kindness, attentiveness, and genuine customer service. Both made a strong impression and helped turn a very good hotel stay into a truly memorable one. What I appreciated most was that their approach didn’t feel isolated. Throughout the property, it was obvious that the team takes real pride not only in the hotel itself, but in creating a special experience for every guest. Regardless of the job, it was clear everyone was prepared to help if they were needed. That kind of consistency says a lot about the culture of a property.I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend The Westin Denver Downtown to anyone looking for a comfortable, polished, and genuinely welcoming experience close enough to things to do but also quiet enough to rest if needed.
MoreOur stay at The Westin Denver Downtown was extremely upsetting, not only because of what happened with our service dogs, but because of how the situation was handled afterward. At check-in, we clearly informed the hotel that we had two service dogs with us. I found the hotel through Google Hotel Search and was directed to Super.com to complete the booking. The only document I was asked to sign at check-in was a liability waiver. I was never presented with or asked to sign any policy stating that the dogs could not be left in the room.We returned to the hotel around 2:30 a.m. and opened our room to find the lights on and one of our service dogs missing. We had no idea where he was or what had happened. When we went to the front desk for answers, instead of immediately telling us that our dog was safe and had been taken to the manager/security office, the conversation began with us being reprimanded for violating hotel policy and being told that the dogs had disrupted other guests. Our only concern at that moment was finding out where our dog was and whether he was safe. The evening manager who became involved was kind and understanding, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the interactions surrounding that conversation and the following morning were much less professional. The next day, when we called for clarification, the conversation again focused almost entirely on a policy we supposedly should have known about, despite never being given that policy at check-in. We were also told that because we booked through a third party, the hotel did not have our phone number or email address. This was difficult to understand, particularly because my girlfriend had also enrolled in Marriott Bonvoy during the stay. The most concerning part of the follow-up conversation was being told, essentially, that the hotel had done us a favor by not calling animal control to take our dogs. After everything that had already happened, that comment came across as punitive rather than helpful and was one of the biggest red flags of the entire experience.Throughout these interactions, our service dogs were also repeatedly referred to as “pets,” despite the fact that we had identified them as service animals when we checked in.We understand that hotels have policies and that staff have to address concerns from other guests. The issue is that the policy was never clearly communicated to us, and once the hotel entered our room and removed one of our service dogs, the first priority should have been immediately telling us that he was safe and explaining what had happened.Instead, we felt scolded, blamed, and unheard. We were so uncomfortable with the way the situation was handled that we chose to leave the hotel early and drive home rather than stay another night. For a Westin and Marriott-branded property, I expected a much more professional and compassionate response to a situation this serious.
MoreThis is a nice hotel but beware of the destination / resort charges. They charge $32 per day, but the rules for use are so complicated they will only take off $16 for the whole stay. We used the front desk market place 2 different dates, but only got credit for 1 day, they wouldn't credit food pool charges. Renting a cabana required use of another company entirely. I wrote and asked about my bill and was told we got a welcome gift, which we didn't, not even a bottle of water as a gold member. If we had it would have to have been worth $48. This is such a fradulent business practice it's illegal in most countries.
MoreThis was my 7th or 8th work trip to Denver this year, and unfortunately, my worst hotel stay. The rooms were spacious and clean, the front desk staff were friendly, and I appreciated the suite upgrade and view.Unfortunately, the experience did not justify the $399 nightly rate. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and caused back pain for days. I eventually used extra blankets and the second bed for cushioning, and ultimately spent my final night at the nearby Hotel Indigo, where the bed was significantly more comfortable. The hotel seems to have prioritized cosmetic updates while overlooking basic comfort. The room also never got as cold as I wanted. There were also several unexpected charges, including $3.57 for not signing a breakfast check that was fully covered by my voucher and $15.97 for a bottle of water that was not clearly disclosed. Most concerning was the resort fee, which was never mentioned at check-in and only appeared on my final bill. It was initially said to be nonrefundable but was ultimately refunded after I escalated the issue. At nearly $500 per night after taxes and fees, I expect much better comfort and transparency. I would much rather stay at The Jacquard or Clio. The friendly staff and upgrade were positives, but overall, this stay was disappointing and not worth the price.
MoreThe rooms are spacious and very clean, and the front desk staff were consistently warm and friendly. I was also upgraded to a suite with a very nice view, which I appreciated.Unfortunately, the overall experience did not justify the rate. I would not recommend or return to this property. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. After the first night, I had back pain that lasted for days. The second night, I actually used extra blankets from housekeeping to add some cushioning and support to the old mattress. I stayed in a double-bed room, and the mattress was noticeably less comfortable than beds I have experienced at much less expensive properties. I actually spent my final night at the Hotel Indigo nearby and found the bed significantly more comfortable. The room also never got as cold as I wanted, despite having the thermostat turned all the way down. There were several confusing charges. I was charged $3.57 for not signing my breakfast check, even though my breakfast voucher covered the entire check. I waited for some time for my to go order, at one point there was not a single restaurant staff member available to assist me, so the entire process was confusing.I was also charged $15.97 for a plastic bottle of water in the room. There was no complimentary water provided upon arrival, despite my Marriott Titanium status. More importantly, the charge was not clearly disclosed in the room. A guest should not have to discover a nearly $16 charge for an empty plastic bottle. My biggest issue, however, was the resort fee. The fee was never mentioned at check-in. I only learned about it when I reviewed my bill at checkout and specifically asked about the charge. I was then told what amenities it supposedly covered and initially told that the fee could not be refunded. After escalating the issue, the hotel ultimately refunded it.For a rate of $399 per night before taxes and fees, I should not have to discover a mandatory resort fee on my bill after checkout. The total cost was effectively around $500 per night, which sets a very high expectation for the quality of the stay. If a mandatory fee is part of the cost of staying at the property, it should be clearly communicated at check-in. I would have loved to use the gym offering. At this price point, I would much rather stay at one of the more luxurious Marriott properties in the area, such as The Jacquard or Clio, where the overall experience better matches the rate. The room here was clean and spacious, and the staff were excellent, but the mattress, temperature control, unexpected charges, and lack of transparency around the resort fee made the stay disappointing for the price. The friendly front desk staff and suite upgrade were definite positives, but ultimately I expected significantly more comfort and transparency from a hotel charging this rate.
