My wife’s dad came from Philly to play for the Lookouts in the late 1940s. She anted to see where he played. We stopped by the stadium today and our timing could not have been better. The gate was open and the outfield was being mowed. So I was able to walk onto the field and get a few photos.

This iconic stadium is in shambles. I stopped by for the historical significance and fact it was used in the movie 42. Gates locked, debris all over the place, and no sign of any care for the grounds. I took a few pictures, but only one area down the third base side has a limited view of the field itself.

Unfortunately UTC now owns the stadium. The university is doing zero maintenance to the stadium. Went by today and it is locked up and they are using the field to park semi trailers and equipment on. Such a waste of an iconic ball field. Barely can see the field.

The players who played in this stadium include Babe Ruth, Lou G, a 16 year old Willie Mays, Harmon Killebrew, Willie Stargell, Ferguson Jerkins, Hank Aaron, and hundreds of baseball legends. The seating is mostly covered. That makes it awesome during the hit summer months. The stadium closed to minor league baseball in 1999. However, many current big leaguers participated in the Southern League Home Run Hitting Contest. Only Rigley Field and Fenway exceed Engel Stadium in baseball history!

Sun shines directly into your face on day games......No breeze as wind is blocked. parking is distant at the bottom of a hill. We only go to spring games as it is so hot in stadium.
