tripadvisorMany homes are being built just outside the park. But, as you drive down the road to the site, you are taken back to the way it was. In the park, tall pines, wide trail to the sugar cane refining ruins. The signage is very good. Explaining what was on the plantation, what was eaten, step by step of the refining process to make sugar, and the explanations were written in first person by Mr. Bulow, which added something. The contributions of the slaves was addressed by Mr. Bulow. As I visited in the early spring, the weather was wonderful and bug repellant wasn't needed, but I'd want it later in the year. As the the trails-some were closed and unfortunately I was pressed for time and didn't walk the full 3 miles that was available.
MoreVery interesting to see where and somewhat how people lived on the plantations years ago. A whole different life. We should never forget our past
MoreWe take our out of state visitors there always. Indian Wars and survival of settlers is addressed. Sugar processing and shipping from the docks there (used to be docks) is most interesting. There are restrooms that are clean and there is a small museum of items found there. We have been there many times. Parking is excellent.
MoreThis is a well preserved part of OLD FLorida. Located in a natural setting, it features the ruins of a functioning plantation house as well as several out buildings. There are some walking paths and sculptures to see as well as picnis areas. You will most likely encounter some local wildlife, especially if you are there early or near dusk. Just be sure to have mosquito repellant! A fun couple of hours...
