tripadvisorThey've worked very hard to recover after the flood. At one of the galleries, we were given a brochure map that has been updated ... unfortunately, the streetside maps are no longer accurate. Most places have smaller inexpensive items you can purchase if you're not currently in the market for a big investment in art.
MoreA very large art district with lots of galleries, a building with artist studios, the North Carolina Glass Center who offers classes, and a few restaurants and a coffee shop. The Gray Line Trolley has two stops for the River Arts District - North and South. The North stop is at the north side of Haywood Rd at Roberts St just before traffic circle, directly across the street from city bus shelter. There was a low concrete wall where I sat and waited to be picked up. The North Carolina Glass Center was located down the street to the left with the bigger multi-artist studio was up the street to the right.
MoreWe happened to go at a time after the big flood caused some of this area to shut down or likely would have given 5-stars. You can tell even after the tragedy this is worth driving through to see.
MoreI very much enjoyed walking the River ARts District of Asheville. There were a variety of artists involved in different mediums and styles. It is tragic that a good portion of the district was destroyed in the devastating storm. However, I found visiting the studios and chatting with the artists enjoyable. Most of the works were moderately priced as opposed to being in the thousands and therefore more affordable to more people (like me). And I did purchase an ail painting. Certainly worth a visit if you are in Asheville.
MoreIf you like pottery, this is like an affordable art museum. The pottery is beautiful and reasonably priced art. We bought some pieces for unique Christmas presents. I love seeing what these ceramic artists create. There are over 50 different artists working and selling their pieces here in a relatively small space so that it's friendly for those with mobility issues. It's probably not a great place for most children, though friendly dogs wait outside on benches.
