We drove along then drove across the bridge of the scenic reservoir on a hot July Saturday. We were headed to the nearby Ashokan Center to see a covered bridge and some waterfalls. Just below the Ashokan Dam is a parking lot with a large beautiful Ashokan Fountain. Clean portajohns too. Good place to stretch our legs and look around.

This review is specifically about the Ashokan Reservoir Promenade, which is the paved path along the top of the dam. It is about 5.6 miles end to end, including the circular drive at the east end. The walkway gives a very scenic view looking toward the Catskills to the north. Very nice for walking, running, or biking. There is parking and port-a-johns at each end, and a few benches along the way. It is mostly unshaded.

Terrific. Try to park next to the bridge and take pictures from there specially during sun set. There are a couple of other vantage points too(where the official address is).

We could not find the Ashakan covered bridge but landed at a better Ashakan Reservoir. 40% of the New York water originates from there. We sat gazing at the beautiful colorful scenery of water, vegetation and calm gaze walking on the pathway until we found a spot to eat our sandwiches. Loved it.
