tripadvisorNot sure why there are so many bad reviews for this place, but looks like most of them are very old. So our experience here has been very good; they have a huge selection of clothing that is much cheaper than what is found on the main drag at Folly. The staff has been friendly and if I ever need more stuff, I'm coming back to Treasure Island
MoreAlways check your bag before leaving store. Given the wrong merchandise! Handed clerk my selection. Turned around to look at something. The bag I was given did not have what I paid for. Sad for me I placed in my suitcase with out looking in bag till I got home - 10 hours away!Store does not answer their phone. Message on answering device even states not to leave a message. Not customer oriented.
MoreGreat store with friendly staff! I'm not sure what's up with all the negative reviews...seems more about things that the store has no control of, over the actual store and staff itself. We popped in for a couple quick souvenirs for family, and a couple of hoodies as it was a chilly day. The staff went through the extra trouble pf wrapping up small breakable gifts for our flight back home, and the two different times we were there they were friendly and helpful. Don't let the nay-sayers keep you away from a fun, nice place to shop for quick items and souvenirs. We loved Treasure island! :-)
MoreI pulled into Treasure Island on my bicycle, having left my home 15 miles away early enough to see the sunrise on Folly Beach. My girlfriend was riding to meet me when it occurred to me I'd forgotten my swim trunks. I suggested we go to Treasure Island, having lived in SC for eight months (and going to Folly several times each week; we love to ride our bikes!) without stopping in. While waiting for her in the parking lot, a detective from Folly PD came out, said the store had been robbed by a guy on a bicycle a few days before, and that I needed to provide him with ID and my recent whereabouts--gun, badge, the whole nine yards! No kidding! I was just looking to get some swim trunks! So, though I'm 51, still I haven't much experience with these sorts of things; like a dummy I'm dumbfounded; I give him my info and he calls it in; I've no idea what my 'rights' are, or even if I have any; all I know is he's got the gun and badge, and I've got the dark skin and bicycle. Course, I'm shaking the whole time like a schoolgirl on prom night, though I've absolutely nothing to hide. (Again, he had a gun.) Finally, he leaves, my partner shows up, we go into the store, and it's nothing but crap--wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling crap, crap, crap. Like another reviewer has pointed out, it's all a couple of containers' worth that floated from China into Charleston Harbor. The better part of our relationship was trying on tops while I was trying on shorts, until finally I couldn't stand the place any longer. I said to the woman at the counter, That cop questioned me in your parking lot regarding your store being robbed. She shrugged her shoulders. We went instead to the surf shops down the road and dropped a couple of c-notes. I'm a disabled American vet, working part-time retail and doing some freelance writing; looking for swim trunks at Treasure Island, for me, was totally Kafka. And, aside from the fact that anything purchased there would remind me always of that frightful experience, it's all crap anyway. (The one pair of shorts I was entertaining--I saw three guys wearing them in the distance of two Folly blocks!) Did I mention the cop had a gun? And my skin is dark? I only wanted some swimming trunks. They have really nice trunks down the street.
MoreMy experience was outstanding due to the most patient, welcoming, and professional service that I received from the store manager, Kay Duncan. She went beyond the call of duty to help me find my size of shoe that I needed as a special birthday gift for my son. I highly recommend this store for all your needs.
