tripadvisorThis is a beautiful lake area in the Prescott National Forest. Lots of people come here for fishing and kayaking. I went during Mother's Day weekend and there were lots of groups there for a picnic and to enjoy family time. There are plenty of picnic tables throughout the park and there's a huge Ramada that can be reserved for groups, probably as large as 50. There's an upper lake area that's used for boating. The lower lake below the dam is used for fishing. There's a hiking trail that goes around the lake. The entrance fee to park is $5 per car load. The park is run by the City of Prescott even though it's within the national forest. If you go on Wednesday it's free. The road going to this site gets very busy during the weekends. The entrance sign is not very clear to see as it comes up quick while you're having to drive mountain curves. I always end up having to turn around and go back to the area. The road going into the park is in disrepair. It's very narrow and there's lots of traffic coming in .....sometimes you have to move off to the side. But it's still worth visiting this beautiful site.
MoreSo i've been going to this lake for years, and I'll be honest, I never pay the three dollar fee, because i'm not going to pay to walk around a lake for an hour. That's ridiculous. I will not be going back, as someone who was dressed in civilian clothes, but acting like a cop, came out, yelled at me, was very aggressive, and threatened to find me fifty dollars. You should not be charging people for nature. This place is clearly all about the money.I will not be back. Terrible experience with that man. Very scary.
MoreAfter lunch downtown we didn't want to leave the area and end our quick vacation. Just a few mile drive up in the mountains and we arrived at Goldwater Lake. Small. Clean. Loads of parking. Clear trails. Benches to relax on and just listen to the birds and the whistling wind. A perfectly relaxing hour before heading back home.
MoreFantastic experience at Goldwater Lake. Took a short hike with my dog...we both loved it. Easy access from Prescott. We went in March...beautiful day...not many people.
MoreWe came to see this lake for the fun of it. It was snowing and hailing of which we enjoyed. This is quite a nice set up with lots of play areas for children. It's a smaller reservoir.
