At the start of the trail is the Williwaw salmon viewing area. It is a fun place for a quick stop to see salmon when they are running.

This was a nice little stop on the way back from Whittier, quick pull off and a short walk to a little over look. We visited on September 4th, and saw way more salmon than we expected to see. Very neat to watch them in their slow migration upstream. Pretty views and pretty trail.

I hiked to the Williwaw Lakes and beyond on my birthday in August and it's my favorite time of the year to do it because it's when the blueberries are plentiful. Not many casual pickers will walk that far (about 5 miles?) to pick berries, but if you do you are generally richly rewarded. We found many unpicked patches and had the lakes almost all to ourselves. The views, of course, are spectacular. From the Glen Alps Trailhead you can do a loop that also passes by Black Lake and over the Ball Field. The whole loops ends up being around 10 miles. Bring plenty of water and food and something to put blueberries in. There are a couple of a few steep and difficult sections, and one very steep section with scree, but most of it is only moderately difficult.

We were at the end of the season so all we saw was a lot of dead or dying salmon. Very pretty area though.

We stopped by on the way back after the 26 Glacier Cruise. There are two viewing platforms a short distance from the bus stop. We were able to see very clearly the salmon swimming upstream. There are also some explanatory boards near the platform detailing the lifecycle of the different types of salmon. Wirth going
