tripadvisorVisiting the Stonehenge replica was a highlights of our Odessa tour. It’s a fascinating mega-structure and a must see. We made this our second to last stop before heading to Por Ali Spa, which is very close by. It was the best way to end the day — stepping out of the City hustle and into the only Hotel Spa in town. My Massage therapy session, pedicure, and Aveda facial were World Class!Highly, recommend making the spa, your final pit-stop after seeing the stones, as they even have a full size running coffee shop inside to enjoy!
MoreVery interesting site in this area of Texas. The limestones are massive and harvested locally. It's worth 15 minutes to stop by read the plaques and take pictures.
MoreOld enough to remember visiting original site on Salisbury Plain and actually climb, or attempt, the stones. So always interested in seeing a replica, this is the 2nd I've seen in TX. Situated on and constructed by UT campus, made of TX limestone and looked very good, although a bit new!!! Well worth a visit, no charge, and just a short drive to the Chris Kyle Memorial Park.
MoreCool quickie stop, great photo op, plus checking out the nearby duck ponds on campus was sweet. The pagan in me wishes it was grass around the stones instead of inviting rocks, but clearly it is easier to maintain (no weed eaters)
MoreWhen I saw that a Stonehenge replica was an Odessa attraction, I feared it might be a cheap tourist trap. In fact, this free, public monument on the UT Permian Basin campus was built by the college and students as an exact replica as the original, including jts celestial orientation. It has multiple signs explaining this Stonehenge and the original. It’s both educational and visually appealing as the replica is built of white limestone blocks that gleam in the sun; a contrast with the original Stonehenge’s dark stones. Definitely worth the 15 minutes it takes to walk around it and read the signs and take photos.
