Reviews
tripadvisorWonderful shops and restaurants on a lovely outdoor pedestrian mall which exudes history on every corner. Live music was playing on the night we were there and yes, people were dancing. A fun, festive, and lovely area.
MoreThe Downtown Mall in Charlottesville is an absolute gem. The beautiful brick pedestrian walkway, unique local shops, inviting restaurants, outdoor art, and historic theaters create a vibrant atmosphere that’s both relaxing and full of character. I especially loved that the area is completely free of car traffic, making it easy to stroll and enjoy everything at your own pace. The fountains and other water features add even more charm to the experience. There were a few people experiencing homelessness in the area, which slightly detracted from the ambiance, but no one approached us or asked for money, and we always felt comfortable.Overall, it’s a beautiful, walkable destination with plenty to see, eat, and explore. I would happily spend another afternoon here and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Charlottesville.
MoreI was very disappointed in the Downtown mall. Many stores close after 4pm and many restaurants are not open. Lots of vagrants sleeping on the side streets after sunset. Not much to see and do. Plus paid parking is expensive.
MoreSuch a beautiful place and pedestrian mall, but the charm is quickly evaporated by homeless people approaching you for money. I feel sad for the homeless and we need solutions for it for sure, but I dont feel entirely safe on the mall, and outdoor dining experiences are not pleasant. Not safe after dark.
MoreI felt safe, however, how do you eat in front of homeless people. Children and women there with no shoes, or place to live, and rich people are eating, and drinking wine while the poor watch right next to them. Heart break and sadness. I did not like the area and nothing in my price range in the mall area with the exception of CVS.
