Oregon Trail Memorial Bridge Bridge

Arching dramatically over the Boise River, this picturesque bridge displays colorful ceramic panels. The concrete arch is a sturdy memorial to the Oregon Trail pioneers that crossed the Boise River close to where the bridge stands. Built by the Boise construction company Morrison Knudsen, the bridge offers views of the Boise Train Depot on one side and the Idaho State Capitol Building on the other. Couple with the nearby Julia Davis Park, and The Cabin for an interesting tour.

This is my favorite spot in Boise. The Oregon trail crossed here for real. Walk out on the bridge and look at the water. imagine driving your car (oxen drawn Wagon with large wheels) across this water just north of the bridge. Thats what makes this spot so exciting!

This small bridge was built in 1931 and completely renovated in 2013; it is an attractive Art Deco bridge crossing of the Boise River. Given that it is a memorial bridge, any connection with the actual Oregon Trail is suspect at best. We crosses over and under this bridge on a nice walk along the Boise River Trail; glad that we did not make a special trip to see it.

I've been over this bridge numerous times. It is right next to one corner of BSU and crosses both the river and the river trail. It is honestly nothing great to look at but I guess due to its age and the fact that it is in proximity to the Oregon Trail, it has some historical significance. It is kinda picturesque, but don't go out of your way to see it.

I've run, walked and driven over this bridge. That it's an Oregon Trail Bridge is barely noticeable, and only if you read the plaque would you even notice it's anything more than a way to get over the river. Nothing architecturally spectacular or historically stunning here. Cross it when you come to it and move on.

Well yes, it is a bridge, but take a moment to read the plaques attached to either end. It was built between 1930-31 by the US Bureau of Public roads and crosses the Boise River, right by Boise State University. This single bridge was largely responsible for the development of the city. It's worth a moment to reflect upon that time, when America was building it's infrastructure. They just rebuilt the bridge for the next 85 years or so.
