tripadvisorStill one of the best bike trails around the Twin Cities as I indicated in by review from 2020. The 9 mile ride from Oakdale to Pine Point Regional Park is especially scenic. Densely wooded sections and other parts passing by farms, lakes and pleasant countryside. However the section east of I-694 is in need of some maintenance as it is a bumpy ride with wide cracks in the pavement. A nice option is to combine the Brown’s Creek Trail out of Stillwater that connects to the Gateway Trail at Duluth Junction and then ride out to Pine Point Regional Park before making the ride back. 18 mile out and back. You can then get a refreshing drink or meal in the historic and scenic town of Stillwater
MoreFabulous trail and route - I use it on my commute into St. Paul often. I love riding in the woods rather than driving the highway! I believe with a wide tire bike the experience would be exceptional. However, I have a road bike with high pressure tires and the trail is desperately in need of repaving with fairly wide cracks and raised bumps, which makes the ride much less enjoyable. I've had accessory screws work themselves loose and my phone fell out of it's holder the other day due to the bumpy trail. By the way, the address above is completely inaccurate, not even close to the trail, and the Gateway Trailside shown in the picture is near Stillwater.
MoreOne of the best paved biking trails in the Twin Cities. I especially enjoy the 9.7 mile stretch from North St Paul near I-694 and Hwy 36 out to Pine Point Regional Park. The trail is mostly flat without any strenuous climbs except going over a couple bridges and takes you past pleasant countryside including farms, lakes and rolling hills and much of it is shaded by trees. There are several access points including the two mentioned above and I've never had trouble finding a parking spot even though it is a popular biking trail. There are a couple spots on the trail requiring you to cross a road but traffic is usually light on these roads. You also have the option of combining all or a portion of the trail with biking on the Brown's Creek Trail which intersects the Gateway Trail at Duluth Junction and takes you out to Stillwater and the St Croix River.
MoreDue to road construction the trail is detoured. That doesn't mean you now park in neighborhood by extension entrance. Use area parking lots. Streets are becoming a hazard.
MoreI ride this trail quite a bit on my bike. I try to go early in the morning or later in the evening as it tends to be very busy during the day. I usually park at the trailhead in North St Paul but noticed there are quite a few other trailheads along the route into Stillwater. The trail is generally in good riding condition and its nice to see the couple potholes that were there last year were fixed. Its still a bit rough thru a stretch right out of North St Paul but after that it is smooth as silk. What I love about this trail is that it the majority of it is shaded by trees. Also love the new addition of the Brown Creek trail. Bit of a challenge going back up the trail though.
