There a several structures located in the city of Buffalo designed by noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright. While all of these were built during Wright's lifetime, there is actually one that was built several decades after the architect's death in 1959. The Blue Sky Mausoleum in Forest Lawn Cemetery, which was completed in 2004, was originally designed for the Darwin Martin family by Wright. However, after Martin lost his fortune in the 1929 stock market crash, the plans were shelved until the 1990s, when the president of Forest Lawn learned about the design, and an effort was made to raise funds to complete it. Burial vaults are available for purchase in this exclusive mausoleum.

tripadvisorThis Frank Lloyd Wright designed mausoleum looks just like the pictures. If it's not too far out of your way, it's certainly worth a ten minute stop.
MoreA unique piece of Frank Lloyd Wright's work located in Forest Lawn Cemetery. To me it resembles steps leading from the small blue lake, over the green grass towards the blue sky. Only a few people are buried in the Mausoleum and when one thinks about it, how many people can be buried inside a work of art by one of the greatest architects in the world.Seems like there are spaces left, so you better act fast if this is a legacy you want to have. This is one of three recent Frank Lloyd Wright additions to the Buffalo area in recent years (the gas station at the Pierce Arrow Museum being another). The area around the Mausoleum is nice though nothing overtly spectacular. If you go to see it, please drive around the cemetery to see other unique monuments and tomb stones.
MoreBeautiful old cemetery, easily accessible and open to the public. Mausoleum is a nice post-humous construction of FLLWs original design. Visible from the street on a hillside by a pond. Lovely granite work.
MoreThis was part of a tour and was definitely more enjoyable for the commentary of the docent. It is starkly simple with a feeling of an ancient Greek amphitheater to it. I didn't find it particularly spiritual and it is now a commercial property. You can rest forever in an FLW designed crypt.
MoreAt first, I entered in mausoleums. It was super nice with stained-glass windows. However, we were evidently not in the right place. Thanks to a map we found how to go to the Blue Sky Mausoleum. Once we stopped at the Blue Sky Mausoleum, we parked our car, I saw a marble seat. I sat on it and took some pictures. Right nearby me was small lake. Many leaves had fallen on the stairs that led to that lake. It was very beautiful. Right behind this lake, was the Blue Sky Mausoleum. We visited this place. It was well made in marble. However, only two couples were buried here. What a great view from that place. Wow!
