Bethania is a small town, nestled next to Winston Salem. It is quaint and some of the houses in the downtown area are quite historic. There is a small antique mall with a restaurant featuring good sandwiches.

The visitors center was not open, so that was a big disappointment, but I stopped in an antique shop down the street and the proprietor filled me in on a lot of the history. It is not the most pedesterian friendly town, but I enjoyed seeing old buildings, both brick and log. God's Acre is more than an actual acre, with thousands of graves, laid out in the order the people died, with modest square stones reminding us that in death, as in life, we are all equal.

A must if one wants to learn about the history if the area and how it was settled. The workers were able to address any questions and tell stories from the past. A must.

My wife and I visited the park on our day trip. The lady in the Visitor Center was very nice and told us the history of the town. She opened two buildings for us to visit and gave us maps of the hiking trails. We hiked the graveyard trail and walked through the old homes. We really enjoyed our visit.

The Historic Bethania visitor center is relatively small compared to Old Salem, but there is a great deal of interesting Moravian history here. The knowledgeable and friendly staff is more than willing to share it with you and answer any questions you have. There is an historic home and chapel in addition to the visitor center that you can visit. A picnic table and walking trails offer a quiet getaway from the hullabaloo of Old Salem. One of the trails meanders up past Bethania's God's Acre (i.e. cemetery) which is lovely and peaceful.
