We walked on the boardwalk to the lake at the end. We did see some alligators in the lake. Due to the drought, there wasn't water in the marsh, but still a good experience.

Insect repellent a must for a walk on the boardwalk. I saw one bird and a handful of dragonflies on the short walk, but spent the next week dealing with the dozens of insect bites.

I found Briggs Nature Center online so we stopped there on our way into Marco Island. Glad we didn't go out of our way because it was pretty disappointing. To start on a humorous point, I looked forward to a bathroom and there was only a port-a-potty by the parking lot. The building said it was law enforcement and looked closed. A sign marked the entrance to the trails, so we followed the trail and boardwalk. We are experienced birders from FL, had binoculars and camera, but only spotted two red-bellied woodpeckers on a tree. Saw just one bird fly overhead, a tri-color heron. Otherwise the mangroves and other habitats were deserted. Might be more interesting at a migration time. Some boards weren't in great shape as you see in the photos, but there is a shaded spot. Just a nice quiet walk. Not many bugs.

We enjoyed our walk along the trail. However, we didn't see much wild life until near the end when we saw some birds.

This was a nice place to spend about an hour. We were fortunate to see an alligator, a box turtle, and a few birds. An easy walk along the boardwalks and free parking in front. Bring water and a hat for the sun.
