I did my research and due diligence before booking a photography tour on my 2nd trip out to Yellowstone. I hit the jackpot with MacNeil and his crew! They are thoughtful, meticulous, knowledgeable, and extremely accommodating. Their love and respect for the environment and wildlife in Yellowstone is evident in every aspect of your journey. MacNeil doesn't just drive you around and show you some park highlights. He chooses places purposefully, with intention, and guides you through a custom one-of-a- kind experience. I don't feel like I booked a Yellowstone Photography tour-I feel like I shared an incredible wildlife experience with a like-minded individual that was invested in my destination, and guided me as such. Thank you, MacNeil for caring about my experience, investing in me as a photographer/individual, and reminding me to return to my happy place as often as possible. Cheers to our next adventure!

A private tour allows you to design a tour with your priorities in mind. However, the most important reason is to have a knowledgeable guide who knows the area, the habits and routines of the animals and is in constant communication with other experts in the park to help you get the sightings your hoping for and MacNeil encapsulates all of those things and more. He has a deep love of the area to go along with his 26 years of experience in Yellowstone. We would never have seen as much as we did without MacNeil. He’s worth every penny!

I went with MacNeil for 2 days through Yellowstone looking to photograph animals. MacNeil was fantastic. He's been doing this for 25 years and it shows. He's super knowledgeable, kind, and really focused on what I wanted to get out of the trip. I also enjoyed watching him interact with other guides/groups when we stopped. He was super helpful to everyone, sharing what we had seen. You could tell that he just wanted everyone to enjoy Yellowstone like he does. I can't recommend him enough.

If you’re considering a guided experience in Yellowstone, Yellowstone Insight Day Tours is simply unmatched. MacNeil’s knowledge is on an entirely different level—deeply scientific, deeply human, and clearly earned over years in the park. During our time together, it felt like he knew everyone we encountered, from rangers to fellow guides, and more than once we were told—unprompted—that he is “the very best Yellowstone guide out here.” That kind of respect doesn’t come lightly, and it completely validated our decision. His stories and personal journey added so much texture to the day, grounding the experience in history, conservation, and lived expertise rather than just facts. The day itself was extraordinary. Every sip and bite was thoughtful and delicious—his homemade elk sausage was a highlight. Wildlife sightings were incredible and varied: cougars high in the mountains, foxes, coyotes, countless birds, and of course bison. MacNeil was incredibly attentive to detail, intentionally seeking out diverse landscapes and ecosystems rather than chasing a single moment. What stood out just as much was his ethics—his deep respect for Yellowstone and commitment to protecting the animals who call it home while still helping guests experience the park in a meaningful way. He’s hardworking, principled, and genuinely passionate about doing this the right way.
