tripadvisorWe stopped by Indian Mounds in Terra Ceia on our way from Bradenton to Clearwater. The area is pretty to see, but that’s about it. The mounds themselves consists of a couple of hundred feet of sidewalk and a trail up the side of the mound. I’m glad it’s preserved, but I don’t feel like it should be a separately-named site. No one should make a trip solely to come here. If you want to go, make sure to combine this with several other nearby state and local parks.
MoreThe mound, which is back in a neighborhood, is not much to look at, you can see it in 10mins and go, another park checked off your list! But it’s not a park with amenities like bathrooms, it’s just a pull off
MoreFair sized park, nice path we arrived by boat. Sight is an Indian mound of shells they deposited after eating. Up a small hill and hard ro see, looks like a small hill. Go for a nice walk not for sightseeing. Go to DeSota park for that.
MoreIt's hard to see the mound as it's covered in trees, there is a short trail that leads through the trees and up the hill to a platform surrounded by trees. There is no view from up here as the foliage is so thick... The site is surrounded by homes and has a small parking lot. It could be a nice spot for a picnic or local history. For me it was a better story than an experience.
MorePicked up a brochure for the site at Gamble Plantation Historic State Park in Ellenton, FL, and thought we would check it out. The GPS had difficulty finding it but when we did off of Route 19, it turned out to be one large sign explaining about the natives who lived there and built the shell mound. Climbing to the top of the mound yielded absolutely no further information and no views of anything as the vegetation had closed everything in. Not recommended.
