I rode to the Mt. Washington light trail expecting to find the trail. No signs, no trail. Checked into Joe's Bikes to ask for directions, no one knew where is was and no one had a map. Risked disaster by biking down Falls Road still seeking the trail. No luck Finally, spotted two other bikers after again risking disaster by crossing the Cold Spring bridge over the Jones Falls Expressway. A nice lady rider pointed me to the start of the trail. The ride south was uneventful and ok. I then stopped at the bike shop at the end of the trail seeking more information about the route, the very nice bike tech had no information. He did offer me an out of date map that showed information I had already discovered was useless. What a terrible disservice to bikers expecting to enjoy a safe ride downtown.

Baltimore Bicycle Works rents bikes and helmets. The trail is at their front door. It's an easy ride up to the Druid Hill Reservoir, playground and the Baltimore Zoo! We saw birds and beautiful spring wild flowers along the Jones Falls Trail.

This trail is asphalt and designed for walking, running, bicycling, etc. The trail has a few hilly sections, but nothing steep. The trail goes from the Inner Harbor Visitors Center to Cylburn Arboretum. In particular, I recommend a bicycle ride starting at Penn Station in Mount Vernon and riding to Cylburn Arboretum (an increase in elevation) Your return to Penn Station will be an easier mostly downhill ride. (about 12 miles round trip) A shorter ride is from Penn Station to the Maryland Zoo and back. (about 6 miles round trip) If you are looking to walk parts of the trail, the sections in Druid Hill Park are a good option. On your ride you will see lots of nature for being in a city, monuments, and old mill architecture. Cylburn is beautiful as well. Consider a picnic here. The Jones Falls Trail between the visitors center and Penn Station is quite urban and has quite a few turns to keep track of.
