We drove to this area to experience the unique experience of the horse drawn canal boat ride. It was fairly easy to find. When we were there they were only doing weekend excursions. You are seated on a passenger boat with long bench seats. The cruise itself is peaceful and so smooth. During the first part a local historian tells you about building the canals and the way they were used to carry freight to the Great Lakes. It is not a long excursion but very pleasant. It was a unique thing to experience. Plus they have a cute little gift shop as well.

Great trip back in time. Beautiful draft horses pulling a replica in a restored section on the Erie Canal. 45 minutes, $8, free parking. And pup friendly!! Don’t worry about getting “seasick” this boat ride is so smooth you won’t even know you are on water!!

Love this attraction. It is cheap and very informative. Use the bug spray on the boat they have or bring your own as there is lots of mosquitoes.

My wife and I had a great canal ride on the Monticello III. The canal boat captain, along with Bill and the two large draft horses, provide a nice historical accounting of life on the canal in the 1800s. The ride is about 45 minutes long along a restored original section of the Ohio and Erie Canal. Definitely the best part of the Historic Roscoe Village area!
